VITO (Belgium)

VITO is the prime contractor of the project and responsible for General Project Management. 

VITO is a leading European independent research and technology organization in the areas of cleantech and sustainable development, elaborating solutions for the large societal challenges of today. VITO has more than 1300 employees and focuses on five research programs: sustainable chemistry, energy, health, materials management and land use. The Land Use research program develops products and services to better manage, predict and control our scarce natural resources.
The VITO Remote Sensing unit has renowned expertise on measuring and monitoring land use and several related aspects. It offers expertise, knowledge, data, services and solutions in EO and large-scale geospatial data processing to extract useful information from remote sensing. This is used for diverse applications such as agriculture, urbanization, vegetation, water & coast, climate, security and infrastructure.

iDiv (Germany)

iDIV is a core partner of the project and responsible for scientific soundness of the solution, as Principle Investigator (PI).

The German Centre for Integrative Biodiversity Research (iDiv) is a central research institution of Leipzig University. iDiv is an excellence center funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). With over 450 employees of 40 nationalities, iDiv leads state-of-the-art and integrative research on biodiversity sustainability. It tackles different facets of biodiversity, including species, genetic, and functional diversity, interactions between species and people, and ecosystem composition, change, and health.

IIASA is core partner of the project and is responsible for the reference data module, validation, and communication.

IIASA, with 400+ employees, is an international research institute that advances systems analysis and applies its research methods to identify policy solutions to reduce human footprints, enhance the resilience of natural and socioeconomic systems, and help achieve the sustainable development goals. In collaboration with GEO and national space agencies, they devise new approaches and technologies to collect, harmonize, and verify spatial information. IIASA developed and manages both the Geo-Wiki and LACO-wiki systems.

BC3 is a core partner of the project and is responsible for the EO-integrated Solution Development (toolbox).

The Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3) is an international and multidisciplinary research institute based in the Basque Country dedicated to Climate Change and Sustainable Development. With 100+ employees belonging to different disciplinary domains, BC3 is a consolidated centre dedicated to the co-production of relevant knowledge for decision-making, integrating the environmental, socioeconomic, and ethical dimensions of climate change. BC3 contributes to the testing and demonstration of scalable solutions for sustainable development in collaboration with 40 international organisations and research centres in more than 20 countries.
